Coffe and Cigarrettes

This is one of the many personal projects I've been working on these days.I got really obsessed with erotic and simple instants of everyday life, after watching "Summer with Monika" by Ingmar Bergman and some other films which drove me to do this.
it all started with a few sketches and then it transformed into a 4 page, "silent" graphic novel (4 page graphic novel?)
The cover for the piece was a last minute decision, and the title , well the title , I can say I didn't put much thought into it. I later realized there is a film with the same title featuring Iggy pop in it.so I guess he does more than insurance company ads.

sticker bomb 2

this morning I got an official confirmation of my work appearing on the book "sticker bomb 2" from the cool guys at SRK (Studio Thesrk).
The first time I saw "Sticker Bomb" I was really impressed. is such a brilliant book, with great graffiti artists and illustrators from all over the world.
you can either keep it as a precious book or go wild and use the stickers everywhere!

is due to be published around march 2010. I will keep you updated on any changes.

finally got the book!

hey! after the exhibition, I found out, the book (images 33) was sent to my old address and I had to retrieve it in a two days mission.
After getting the parcel and getting friends to pick it up for me , Alas! the book is in my hands. the book is pretty hefty, measuring more than an inch thick , containing all the work I saw at the LCC and a nice shot of Bear and boy!

Images 33

The new book "images 33" has been launched this week by the AOI (association of Illustrators).
This is a great great compilation of brilliant illustrators , claiming to represent the best of British contemporary illustration. The Private view in London at the London College of Communication, was full with big names walking around the rooms and awards given to different Illustration "celebrities".
The AOI staff were very helpful and kind dealing with a great number of people who came to see all the work.

Thank you

Thank you! from Cristian Ortiz on Vimeo.

I spent a few days thinking, about how to thank fellow artist, LadySnail (Debbie Greenaway),for all the lovely things she has sent to me.
This is how I decided to express my gratitude, and I really hope she likes it and doesn't find it offensive that I drew one of her characters........I just thought, giving life and movement, is a great present. any parent would love that!! yup

Great space and mood at the Old Sweet Shop. I had the chance to talk to some talented artists and catch up with old friends. it was really lovely and welcoming.

Exhibition goodness

acrylics, screen print and digital retouch "it's time for glory"
when it started to get busy

acrylics and emulsion on canvas "watch out"

The unmasked exhibition was a great success, and it makes me feel really accomplished. The opening night run smoothly, getting so busy that at some point it was quite tricky to get through.
The people that came to the Rag factory, made the night really delightful and pleasant.
We all met countless of new people, and some of us sold a great number of pieces.
Thanks to everyone who came around to check the work.

That's not a bussines card

A quick design for my new business cards, which I was meant to design last week, and now I just have to cross my fingers and hope they are ready by the date of the show (unmasked exhibition).
I'm very excited about the exhibition and all the things surrounding the topic.
I have finished my two posters for the exhibition, and I'm extremely pleased with them, which doesn't happen very often. so come around and check them out, because I wont be able to show them online before the show.

shoot for freedom

This was a little request I had from juffrouwjo .
make sure you check the original pic from her blog. I had loads of fun doing this , playing with acrilics and scanning my own textures.
This piece has an air of what you may be looking at on my up coming exhibition on the 7th of may.

stay tuned!!

girls? guns? 40's ? come on!!

In one of my random browsing nights (a few weeks ago) through flickr, I found the most amazing photos of random people from the 1940's. This lovely lady, juffrouwjo has the craziest collection of pics. I found myself surrounded by photos of girls, who fought for the french resistance, against Nazi Germany.
they looked so cool and passionate, that I knew I had to draw something about it.

RUN

Last year I went to see the exhibition Cycles and Seasons from Cy Twombly, at the tate modern. the whole set blew me away and left me well inspired , but never had the bravery to experiment to that point with my work.
Since I'm working on new pieces for the up coming exhibition in may , I've been trying new textures and experimenting with acrylics. I'm well pleased about how this came out , because I can see where it can go from here : D
